Small businesses are at war right now. They are battling for consumer dollars in a rough economy. Unfortunately, the very existence of some of
these businesses hangs in the balance.
I know everyone wants a silver bullet for their business woes, but that just isn’t how it works. So many businesses are grabbing any marketing weapon they can get their hands on, whether they know how to use it or not, and some don’t even grab the right weapon. They follow someone blindly, getting sold on a hot new service they may not even need in the first place.
Like it or not, now is the time you need to have a plan. Now is the time to start getting feedback from your customers on how to make your product or service better. Now is the time for strategy. Marketing shouldn’t be a random guessing exercise!

You are right on the money. Too many small businesses are focused on “weapons”, or what I call “tactics.” They are really the same thing though. They should instead be focusing on their goal(s) and strategies. The weapons or tactics are born from this design. Great post. Short and to the point.
Hi Nick-
Yep, this is my #1 peeve when talking to small business owners. If they would just take the time to plan and focus, they would get much better results. Works well for those who listen.
Thanks for the comments!
