- Don’t write a business plan. You don’t need objectives, mission statements, goals, or a budget.
- Don’t do any research on your selected industry.
-
That hobby or skill you are good at is the perfect business. How could you fail since you’re so good at it?
- Rent the cheapest possible place in town no matter where it’s located.
- Don’t listen to customers.
- Do everything yourself. Even when you are super busy, it is much better take on all tasks and not delegate or hire any new people.
- Don’t get any input from employees. You didn’t hire them to think.
- Get plenty of advice from your friends and family.
- Completely ignore changes in technology.
- Don’t worry about costs or good bookkeeping. If you run out of money, you can always get more.
Ahhh….I feel better. I needed a moment to vent.
If you found this funny, great! I am so glad I could bring humor to your day.
If any of this seems familiar, please take some time and try to change things. So many people have blinders on when it comes to their businesses; take them off before it is too late.

Jennifer, you pretty much nailed the usual suspects in every business failure. Not having a plan, trying to do everything yourself, and having a poor handle on finances and bookkeeping glare at me as the 3 worse offenses.
We’ve all made these mistakes at one point or another, I know I have! That’s why it’s good to remind ourselves of potential errors and take steps to avoid them at all costs!
Thanks for a great post!
Thanks for your comments Danilo! You are right, we all make some of these mistakes. What really separates the successes from the failures is the ability to change.
Have a great week!
