As I have mentioned before, I do an activity called Good, Bad, and Ugly in my MKT/421 class. For the first time, I had two students bring in videos from the same company for their ugly examples. They were two different ads for Orkin, but both students thought they were disturbing to the point of being ugly.
I can see what Orkin is trying to do here, create a super creepy image of pests in and around your home. However, this might take things too far.
If you get a chance, watch the videos below and let me know what you think.

Bad? Not necessarily in my opinion. Ugly, sure. But the name of the game is effectiveness, and I think these are very effective, especially given the industry they are in. Now if you want bad commercials, you should watch 99% of local car dealership ads!
We talked about the horrible car commercials in class. I used to just think it was a Louisville thing to have bad car commercials, but saw the same stuff in Florida last week. Must be a nationwide issue.
I agree with Scott. They may be “creepy”, but they do get the company remembered in the context of pests. Seems pretty effective to me.
Hi Nathan,
Just another good reason to do your marketing research. You have to get the right message to the right people in the right way. It would be interesting to know who successful this campaign was for Orkin.
Thanks for the comments!
