Marketing Can Be Simple

by Jennifer Fontaine on October 5, 2010

This morning I went out to my garage, two toddlers in tow, to find that my garage door was broken.  And I do mean truly broken, it would not come Marketing with a Sticker up when I pushed the button.  I tried to override the system and do it manually, but that didn’t work either.  I couldn’t believe it, my car was being held hostage by my garage door opener.  I wasn’t going anywhere.

As I inspected the door to try to find out what was wrong with it, I noticed a sticker.  As you can see from the photo, it is nothing too fancy, but is extremely effective.  I grabbed my phone and called the number immediately. No Google, Yahoo, or Bing.  No Facebook or Twitter.  No phonebook (yes, I still keep one of those in the house). Just a simple sticker in the right place at the right time, and Custom Overhead Door Service had my business.

I’m not trying to down play the importance of the Internet or social media, they definitely have their place in modern marketing.  What I am trying to say is that there are still some brilliant offline strategies out there.  Don’t let trying to keep up with technology blind you from other good techniques.

Jennifer, I just love stories like this. It’s those simple yet great things that make life so wonderful.

As to marketing, no matter if on- or offline: be there at the right time, with the right message to the right person. And that’s what Custom Overhead Door Service did with their sticker.

Best,
Matthias
