The Copy on Your Website Matters

by Jennifer Fontaine on November 10, 2011

Don’t think for one minute that the copy on your website doesn’t really matter.  It does!

I am a super huge fan of whichtestwon.com .  If you have never visited the site, go check it out today and sign up for her email updates.  When you subscribe, you get updates for every new test that is published.  You used to be able to view all of the case studies for free, but now you can only see the most recent test for free and the rest are available on a premium plan.  I plan on signing up for the premium version before teaching my next class, and I would recommend it to anyone  just to look through the previous cases and get ideas for you to try on your site.

Case study #165, the current test on whichtestwon.com as of November 10, is a great example of how copy can influence a customer’s behavior.  The winning version got a 184% lift in submitted forms.  That’s huge!

If you have never tested anything to try to improve your website’s performance, you should start now.  Remember, it isn’t about what you think, what I think, or what your web designer thinks; it is about what the end user thinks. You simply can’t know what works best unless you test!
