HiPPO means “ Hi ghest P aid P erson’s O pinion.” Or if you are a struggling small business, it could mean “Highest Position Person’s Opinion.” (Let’s face it, sometimes the owner of a small business is not the highest paid person. Sad to say, but is often true.)
Mmmm....That Business Looks Yummy!
When all of your decisions are made via the HiPPO method, your business could suffer the consequences. I know it is your business, but never forget it is the needs of the customers that really matter. Your products should be designed to meet your customers’ needs. Your website should be designed to be user friendly to your customers and potential customers. Your customer service should be outstanding. The list could go on and on here, but I think you get the picture.

I also think that sometimes the people lower down the scale of importance and/or pay can have equally valuable insights and ideas for a company large or small, so we shouldn’t forget to ask them and to listen to their answers. Highest paid or highest position doesn’t necessarily equate to most creative.
