Ok, I know these have been a long time coming. I almost decided not to post the results from my social media survey, but so many people have asked about them, I decided to go ahead and do it.
Why did I almost not share? Well, the test was flawed. I had trouble with Constant Contact surveys as my data collection tool. I had so many people say they got a message that they had already taken the test, but they hadn’t yet. Imagine that if about 20 people reached out and told me they were having problems, how many people had issues but just moved on. Over a 1000 people clicked on the link to take the survey, but only 118 took it. I know there were several that we never could get things worked out for them to take it. Anyway….
Knowing there were several errors and problems, you can download my social media survey results and take a look.
A few interesting things of note about the survey:
Additional Social Media Tools Shared
There were several tools added to “social media tools used.” Some I have heard of before, some I haven’t. Here is the list:
Tumblr
Untappd
HootSuite
Ping.fm
Onlywire
Posterous
Wordpress
Plaxo
Redgage
Xing
Amplify.com
Ecademy
Better Networker
Skype
Gowalla
Soundcloug
Quara
Yelp
Mapwide.com
Focus
These were in addition to the major ones I used in the survey. (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Foursquare, MySpace, Flickr, and YouTube)
I did offer to give out blog addresses for people who wanted a little free publicity. Thank you to all of these people for participating in the survey:

A big thanks to all the bloggers and podcasters who took time to fill out my survey. I know many of you interact with my on Twitter, so I really appreciate your support! (Note: if your link didn’t work, I deleted it.)
What else did I find interesting?
- I thought it was interesting that most of the people who took the survey still prefer email for communication.
- I also thought it was interesting that with all the buzz over the growth of Facebook and it being a social hub, that 16% of the people on this survey use it less now than they did this time last year.
- Over 56% of the survey takers were ages 35-55. I guess this makes sense since I also fall into this age bracket. I would like to thank the four 18-24 year olds who took the survey. I would have been depressed if that had been a zero.
Anything you find interesting? What about the other tools that were mentioned above, do you use them? Any of them you love and couldn’t live without? I want to know what you think. Maybe some discussion in the comments will make up for the technical difficulties during the survey.
