Marketing Lessons From Screenwriting Class – The Sequel

by Jennifer Fontaine on November 1, 2011

I wrote a blog post last year about marketing lessons from screenwriting class .  Since published, it has become one of my most popular posts. Today, I Marketing Lessons am going to take you through the classroom exercise my instructor took us through. First, read the script below.  What do you think of it?  Next, click on the link to go watch the movie clip. Finally, read the lesson at the end.

Her
It’s nice out here. Let’s not go out for dinner. Let’s stay here.

Him

We have to eat.

Her

We can eat here. I’ll cook.

Him

I thought you didn’t like to cook.

Her

No, I don’t like to cook.

But I have a chicken in the icebox, and you’re eating it.

Him

What about all the washing up afterward?

Her

We’ll eat it with our fingers.

Him

Don’t we need any plates?

Her

Yes. One for you and one for me.

Him

Mind if I have dinner with you tonight?

Her

I’d be delighted.

Now, go see the clip from the movie.  (sorry for the commercial at the beginning):

The lesson here: Never say something if you can show it instead. I know this was the lesson the first time around, but it is so important that it is worth the reminder.
